The organizers will formally launch the contest in July. This marks the 5th time the four agencies have partnered for this prestigious essay writing competition. The contest aims to create a deeper awareness and greater appreciation among the youth of the benefits of clean and renewable energy. Since it started in 2002, the WED EWC has attracted more than 1,700 participants from over 300 secondary schools nationwide. To join, high school students are required to compose an essay on the theme: “The Role of Renewable Energy in addressing Climate Change.” All essays must be written in English and must be from 1,000 to 1,500 words in length, typed on short bond paper, using 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font. No names or identifying marks must be written on any of the essays. They must be submitted with a fully accomplished entry form available at the Hedcor, Inc. website, www.hedcor.com. Five (5) copies of the essay must be enclosed in a short brown envelope and submitted to 2GO outlets nationwide. All entries will undergo screening and preliminary judging to determine the top five finalists. The finalists will be notified by phone and e-mail on or before November 15. Deadline for submission of entries is on October 15. The final selection will be based on an on-the-spot essay contest to be held at the Aboitiz Corporate Center in Makati on December 6. The first prize is P15, 000, a personal computer, a computer for his or her school and a United Nations certificate. The awarding rites will be held on December 7, at a special reception to celebrate Philippine Energy Week.
